In general parlance, backup and recovery refers to a number of procedures and strategies involved in protecting all your database against any data loss and then reconstructing the very same database after some kind of data loss. A backup generally refers to a copy of data from your device’s database which can be used to reconstruct that data again if there is a need to.

· physical backups and
· logical backups.
Physical backups refers to the backups of the physical files which are used in storing and recovering your database, such as control files, data files, and the archived redo logs. At the end of the day, every physical backup is nothing but a copy of files that is storing some database information to a certain new location, whether on a disk or on some offline storage facility such as a tape, floppy, USB etc.
Logical backups on the other hand contain logical data (such as, tables or stored procedures) carried across from a database with a backup support export utility and is stored in form of a binary file, this is to later re-import it into a database by using the corresponding backup support import utility.
Please remember that data backup cannot every time restore all of a system's data or settings. For example, your whatsapp messages, they are restored only till a certain time and date. You won’t have all of your chats restored.
